Quality Assurance Review (QAR) Information

The two to three visits which have characterized a "cycle" of school improvement over the past 20 years will be replaced by one Quality Assurance Review (QAR) every five years. These reviews will be directed by highly qualified QAR Chairs and teams. There is an information sheet detailing the QAR process.

If you are interested in participating as a QAR Chair or QAR Team Member, we encourage you to complete either the QAR Chair Training registration form or the QAR Team Member volunteer form and fax it to our office. QAR Chairs and Team Members can also receive SB-CEUs for their participation in a visit!

Each school year approximately 300 Michigan NCA schools will be hosting their QAR visit. Your school will have support in preparation for this visit. All schools have been notified of the year in which they can anticipate a QAR visit. The visit will review a school's work meeting the NCA Standards for Quality Schools, including Continuous Improvement. The visit is not necessarily connected to the "completion of a cycle". As we remember that school improvement is continuous, we can produce evidence wherever we are in the process.

The District Quality Asssurance Review option is also available. One of the advantages for a district to pursue District Accreditation is to have all schools reviewed once every five years over a three day period. School Quality Assurance Reviews will take 1 to 2 days depending on the size of the school. Districts can realize a cost a savings by choosing the District Accreditation process. When your school is scheduled for a QAR visit, consider attending the "Preparing for Your Quality Assurance Review (QAR) " workshop which is a 1/2 day workshop that will provide guidance for your QAR visit, including completion of your Standards Assessment Report (SAR).
